According to Worldcarfans theres a court case going on involving Anthony Hamilton and Paul Di Resta over money.

One fact made clear during the case was that Hamilton didnt pay his own dad (as well as sacking him) despite his dad doing untold amount of shit to get him to be an F1 driver.

More ammo for people who dont like him and the Jalopnik Haters Guide. (I used to like him, until i found out he sacked his dad).

From everything I've read, Anthony Hamilton's a complete prick and it's not surprising Lewis wants to have as little as possible to do with him these days. The only odd part of this story is that di Resta was foolish enough to get involved with the poisonous bastard: everything he touches turns to strife.

Lewis's dad abandoned his mother and Lewis when Lewis was two years old, then barely saw him again until his son by his second marriage was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, at which point he turned back up like a bad penny, took Lewis to live with him, and turned him into a racing driver by being the ultimate pushy parent.

Were you unaware of all this, or do you really think Lewis is the one at fault there?

That is because Lewis thinks he is Nelson Mandela's son. (Nice message though)

I was aware. The newspapers and forums prove hes an idiot as well. I just think the principal is wrong. IMO Lewis should see it as "he maybe a dick and pushy but he did get you to where you were" - so a little recognition (beyond a thank you) would be good.

Anthony's treatment of Lewis verged on abuse, and was clearly for his own vicarious ends. As I understand it Lewis avoids him entirely these days. He (rightly, IMO) doesn't even thank his dad for something that his dad did for himself, not for his son, let alone pay him for it.

Hamilton Snr has made lots of money out of Lewis's success, including this thing with Di Resta, just as he always planned.

I think there's a tendency of people with good parents to think 'how can it be that way, he's still your father', because they just can't imagine a dad acting like that to his son, but sometimes you have to deal with someone who just isn't worthy of the name 'father'.

Lewis talent got him where he is, not his dad, otherwise he would be like a paydriver Max Chilton, or anybody else

Youre very right in this regard; both parties screwed over each other one way or another. I just think they should apologize, keep whatever promises were made, and move on.

Last Paragraph: You make an excellent point

His dad would have sacrificed things to get him in F1.

An example is this:

I studied Goju Kai Karate from age 11 to 17. My parents had to drive me to the school three times a week in the evenings, sit through 6 hour grading/exams, buy the uniforms, wash them, etc etc. His dad would have had to do the same.

I think regardless of how successful he is, getting him to that stage would require sacrifice, patience, etc.

Although, unless you were pushed towards Hollywood, there would be little potential "payoff" to them outside of your own personal sense of achievement and confidence. In this case, he was pushed into the career, in much the same way that "tiger" parents push their kids in academics. Perhaps hee was looking at the time and money spent as an investment in his retirement.

Keeping in mind it's not a press release vetted by lawyers, what is so poor about his choice of words?
